Despite Covid-19, Helensburgh Orchestra Society remains in good health.
The imposition of lockdown measures brought the main 2019-2020 season to an abrupt close in March, with the cancellation of our Spring concert; so too we were unable to proceed with the Arrochar Three Villages Hall concert scheduled for August.
However, the core community spirit of the Orchestra was maintained through spring and summer with weekly meetings on-line and, through the wonders of technology, HOS has kicked off the new season with rehearsals being held ‘virtually’ via videoconferencing tools. While not all members are able to play, our normal Monday evening rehearsal programme is in full swing on-line, with our Musical Director leading sectional groups through a programme of full- and part-orchestral pieces – thus sustaining musical skills, while learning some technical tricks as well!
Meanwhile, we are keeping a close eye on the situation with a view to resuming face-to-face (or, more properly, side-by side!) music-making and ‘normal’ business as soon as it is safe and permissible for us to do so.
