The Helensburgh Orchestral Society was established in 1957 under the direction of Bryden Thomson. The Orchestra continues to thrive as a focus for amateur orchestral music in the Helensburgh and West of Scotland vicinity.
The Orchestra meets once a week at the Victoria Halls, Helensburgh from September through to March.

Annabel Stevens Violin Soloist

Annabel Stevens is a violinist based in Glasgow, where she is a student at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland. Annabel has garnered numerous awards, including the Dunbar-Gerber Prize for Chamber Music, the Harrison-Frank Family Foundation Award, the Hilda Bailey Prize for violin, and first place in the RCS Classical Concerto Competition. She has performed Beethoven’s Violin Concerto with orchestras across Scotland, and in her home town of Nottingham where she regularly appears with the Trent Chamber Orchestra. She has also played with ensembles such as the Royal Scottish National Orchestra, the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra, the GRIT Orchestra, the Maxwell String Quartet, and Scottish Ensemble, with a number of these performances having featured at events such as the BBC Proms, Edinburgh International Festival, Celtic Connections, and Mendelssohn on Mull. Annabel was a 2025 young artist with Scottish Ensemble and will be making her Conway Hall debut in May with the Antar Quartet. Our next concert will be at 7.30 on Saturday 28th March at Victoria Halls, Helensburgh.
PLAYERS WANTED!
We are always keen to welcome new members to the orchestra! You should be of Grade 5 standard, or equivalent, and able to commit to attending rehearsals. We generally have vacancies for strings, lower brass and percussion. If you are interested, please go to our membership page for more details.
